INTRODUCTION What is Operational Technology? Operational Technology (OT) refers to technologies involving interconnected devices and computers for the monitoring and control of physical processes. Today, OT is deployed in industrial sectors such as manufacturing, transportation, energy and water, among others. OT is integral to our everyday lives. For example, the traffic lights controlling the flow of traffic, the signalling systems that regulates train deployment, the sensors detecting the chemical content in our drinking water, and the electricity grid that powers up our appliances, are all managed by OT systems. These systems effectively and seamlessly drive our modern way of life today. 4 OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CYBERSECURITY MASTERPLAN 2019 OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CYBERSECURITY MASTERPLAN 2019 5
