Summary
The present report has been prepared in pursuance of General Assembly
resolution 56/123 on strengthening the United Nations Crime Prevention and
Criminal Justice Programme, in particular its technical cooperation capacity. It
highlights the progress made with regard to the promotion of the entry into force of
the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the three
protocols thereto, and also describes the status of work regarding the negotiation of
the draft United Nations convention against corruption, and reviews technical
cooperation activities related to the global programmes against corruption,
trafficking in human beings and transnational organized crime.
In addition, the report provides information on the use and application of the
United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice, and on
the voluntary contributions to the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal
Justice Fund received in 2001.
