An Act to make provision to facilitate the use of electronic
communications and electronic data storage; to make provision
about the modification of licences granted under section 7 of the
Telecommunications Act 1984; and for connected purposes.

e it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with
the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and
Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the
authority of the same, as follows:—

Part I
Cryptography service providers
1.—(1) It shall be the duty of the Secretary of State to establish and Register of

(2) The Secretary of State shall secure that the register contains
particulars of every person who is for the time being approved under any
arrangements in force under section 2.
(3) The particulars that must be recorded in every entry in the register
relating to an approved person are—
(a) the name and address of that person;
(b) the services in respect of which that person is approved; and
(c) the conditions of the approval.
(4) It shall be the duty of the Secretary of State to ensure that such
arrangements are in force as he considers appropriate for—
(a) allowing members of the public to inspect the contents of the
register; and
