-7- AG/DEC. 39 (XXXIV-O/04) DECLARATION ON THE IMPACT OF THE ENERGY SITUATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEMBER STATES (Adopted at the fourth plenary session, held on June 8, 2004) THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, CONSIDERING that the current international energy situation has a significant impact on the economies of the member states of the OAS; and BEARING IN MIND that Article 11 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter states that “[d]emocracy and economic and social development are interdependent and mutually reinforcing,” EXPRESSES its concern at the burden imposed on developing countries by the international energy situation and calls upon the appropriate bodies to examine this problem.
