1.3 Strategic objectives To ensure full protection of information infrastructures in Germany, the Federal Government has set out three strategic objectives in the National Plan for Information Infrastructure Protection: • Prevention: Protecting information infrastructures adequately • Preparedness: Responding effectively to IT security incidents • Sustainability: Enhancing German competence in IT security/ Setting international standards These objectives are a supplement to the Federal Government’s IT strategy. Implementation plans for the federal administration and for critical infrastructures will be drawn up to ensure that these objectives are achieved, and additional plans may follow, if necessary. To protect information infrastructures in Germany on a sustained basis, the Federal Government will regularly review this National Plan and make necessary adjustments in accordance with actual needs.
