Reservists constitute an important force for meeting operational requirements of the standing force during wartime and ensuring peacetime. Organized in accordance with the Reserve Forces Act and the Military Personnel Management Act, reservists are mobilized either to augment active-service units during wartime or for local and workplace defense missions during wartime or peacetime. The number of reservists amounts to 2,750,000 as of September 2016.
