New cybersecurity spreads beyond the mere sphere of protecting technological
patrimony and delves into political, economic and social fields.
In addition to actions that affect digital systems, cyberspace should be considered as
a strategic communication vector that can be used to influence public opinion and
how people think by manipulating information, disinformation campaigns or hybrid
actions. Its potential application in a very wide range of situations, including electoral
processes, makes it extremely complex.
This renewed outlook in a field that is understood to have spread functionally, and
where public-private collaboration is key, calls for a new approach in the form of a
new national cybersecurity strategy.
