The challenge that the nation has to face and solve, concerns the creation of a military force that is able to meet the needs of international security and defence. In the short term, this means mitigating any risks that could result from limited resources, and in the medium and long term, developing a synergistic capability to prevent and manage situations of instability and international uncertainty. 131. Obtaining the correct balance between quantity, quality and capability is the main task of Defence in the immediate future, and will be implemented through the publication of the “strategic review of defence”, which will end with the definition of a new fifteen year plan.
